Butler County, PA – Pennsylvania State Police are renewing efforts to solve a 2013 homicide in Evans City, offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
According to Pennsylvania State Police Troop D in Butler, the case involves the killing of 45-year-old Robert Charles Gaurich, who was found dead on January 11, 2013, behind Bob’s Truck & Auto Repair along Evans City Road. Troopers said he suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigators believe Gaurich had been inside his business before attempting to flee his attacker or attackers through the main door. His body was later discovered lying face down on a gravel pile behind the building.
Authorities say a key piece of evidence—a .30-30 caliber rifle owned by the victim—was missing from the scene. The firearm was described as a Winchester Canadian Centennial lever-action rifle with an octagonal barrel measuring 26 to 28 inches, stamped “1867–1967.” It featured a wooden stock with visible repairs and was missing a metal ring on the butt stock. The rifle did not have a scope but had iron sights.
