Baltimore County, MD – Maryland State Police arrested a 59-year-old man accused of impersonating a police officer and attempting to conduct a traffic stop along Interstate 695 earlier this week.

According to Maryland State Police, the incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. on Monday, May 5, when a motorist reported a driver in a Ford Explorer attempting to pull them over on the outer loop of I-695 near Washington Boulevard. Authorities said the suspect allegedly activated blue and white flashing lights from his vehicle.

Investigators said the motorist did not stop and instead called 911 while continuing to drive. The suspect, later identified as Eric Baummer of Mount Airy, allegedly passed the vehicle and changed lanes before exiting the highway at Hollins Ferry Road.

Police said the reporting driver, identified as an off-duty military law enforcement officer, followed Baummer to a gas station in the 4300 block of Hollins Ferry Road in Lansdowne while staying on the phone with authorities.

Troopers from the Golden Ring Barrack, along with officers from the Baltimore County Police Department, responded to the scene and took Baummer into custody without incident. Officials said he was the sole occupant of a black 2014 Ford Explorer involved in the case.

Baummer has been charged with impersonating a police officer. The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone who may have encountered similar incidents is urged to contact Maryland State Police.
