Buffalo, NY – A frost advisory is in effect overnight May 11–12 across western New York, with temperatures expected to fall to around 30 degrees in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the advisory runs from midnight through 9 a.m. Tuesday and includes Niagara Falls, Rochester, Medina, Newark, Fair Haven, and Canandaigua.

The advisory covers Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, and Ontario counties, where clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to drop to near-freezing levels by early Tuesday morning.

The main concern is frost formation that could damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation. Plants left uncovered overnight are especially vulnerable as temperatures dip to some of the coldest levels seen so far this May.

Residents are urged to take precautions by covering tender plants or bringing them indoors before midnight. Gardeners and agricultural interests should act quickly to protect early-season growth.

Temperatures are expected to rise after sunrise Tuesday, ending the frost threat by mid-morning.

This late-season cold snap serves as another reminder that frost risks remain across parts of New York despite recent warmer weather.
