Kansas City, MO – A powerful winter storm is bringing up to 15 inches of snow and blizzard conditions to Missouri and Kansas through Monday morning.

The National Weather Service issued Winter Storm and Blizzard Warnings for areas including Kansas City, St. Joseph, and Liberty. Heavy snow, ice, and 40 mph winds will create whiteout conditions. Visibility is expected to drop below 1/4 mile during the height of the storm Sunday morning.

Travel could become dangerous or impossible. Residents should stay indoors and avoid unnecessary trips. If travel is unavoidable, officials recommend carrying a winter survival kit with food, water, and a flashlight.

Local emergency services urge preparedness. Stock up on essential supplies and prepare for possible power outages. “Stay safe and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary,” warned local authorities.

For real-time road updates, Missouri travelers can visit traveler.modot.org, while Kansas residents can call 511.
