Chicago, IL – Lake effect snow and freezing temperatures are forecast to hit the Chicago area and northwest Indiana through 7 p.m. Monday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect, warning of hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), residents should expect reduced visibility, slippery roads, and travel delays. Snowfall will vary across short distances, with heavier accumulation likely near Lake Michigan. Temperatures will range from a high of 26 degrees to a low of 10, with wind chills as low as -5.
The advisory covers Lake and Cook counties in Illinois and Benton County in Indiana. Commuters should prepare for impacts during both morning and evening travel hours. NWS recommends slowing down, increasing following distances, and allowing extra time for travel.
Snowfall and icy conditions are expected to ease by late Monday, but cold temperatures will persist into Tuesday and beyond. Highs are projected to stay in the low 20s through midweek.
