Birmingham, Alabama – A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through 8 a.m. Saturday for much of central and eastern Alabama, creating hazardous travel conditions along major roadways including I-65, I-20, I-59 and I-85.

Visibility in some locations has dropped below one-quarter mile early this morning, especially in low-lying areas and near rivers. Drivers traveling through Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, Anniston, Gadsden and surrounding communities should be prepared for sudden changes in visibility.

Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance and use low-beam headlights. High beams can reflect off fog droplets and further reduce visibility. Officials also recommend allowing extra travel time or delaying travel until conditions improve later this morning.

The fog is expected to gradually lift after sunrise, with conditions improving by mid-morning. Once the fog clears, skies will become mostly sunny across the region.

Afternoon temperatures will warm significantly, climbing into the lower to middle 70s along the I-20 and I-65 corridors. Light and variable winds around 5 mph will accompany the sunshine, creating a pleasant and mild end to February.

Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear with near calm winds. Overnight lows are forecast to fall into the mid to upper 40s across central Alabama.

Residents should remain cautious during the early morning commute but can expect improving conditions as the day progresses. Stay updated with local forecasts for any changes, especially if traveling along major interstates during the advisory period.
