According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, showers and thunderstorms are likely to begin after 3 p.m. Sunday, with a strong southwest wind between 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%, with rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter inch possible—more in thunderstorms.

Sunday night, the storm threat continues with likely thunderstorms between midnight and 2 a.m., then scattered storms into early Monday. Lows will fall to the low 70s, and wind patterns will shift southwest at 5 to 10 mph.

Cities west of Mesa, including Gilbert and Chandler, may experience temporary road flooding and visibility drops. Drivers are urged to avoid low-lying areas and delay non-essential travel during evening hours. Residents should also secure outdoor items and have flashlights charged in case of brief power outages.

The storm system is expected to clear by mid-morning Monday, with a return to sunny skies and highs near 90°F. Another round of triple-digit heat arrives by Thursday.
