Flagstaff, Arizona – Flash flooding remains a serious threat across northern and central Arizona through Wednesday afternoon as slow-moving storms drop heavy rain over high terrain, dry washes, and burn scars.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a Flood Watch is in effect for Coconino and Yavapai counties, including the Grand Canyon, Kaibab Plateau, and the Mogollon Rim. The alert, issued Tuesday night, warns of excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding in creeks, canyons, and low-water crossings.
Cities at risk include Flagstaff, Sedona, Prescott, Cottonwood, Williams, and Forest Lakes. Water could rise quickly in slot canyons and hiking areas like Oak Creek and Sycamore Canyons, creating dangerous conditions with little warning. Recently burned areas are especially vulnerable.
Motorists should avoid travel through low-lying roads and unpaved trails. Flash floods can turn normally dry washes into deadly torrents within minutes. Officials urge residents and visitors to monitor alerts, avoid crossing flooded roads, and stay out of canyons during storms.
The Flood Watch remains in place until Wednesday afternoon, with additional watches or warnings possible if rainfall continues.
