Winnipeg, MB – Police in Winnipeg are investigating three separate animal cruelty cases reported in December 2024. Each incident involved deceased cats found under the Summit Road Bridge in the city’s North End.
According to the Winnipeg Police Service, six cats were discovered by residents who frequent the area for recreation. Some animals were left in bags or on the path beneath the bridge. Officers reported visible signs of foul play.
Police responded to reports on December 8, 28, and 30 at the same location near Summit and Saskatchewan roads. Patrol officers worked with witnesses, the Humane Society, and Animal Services. They discovered pet identifiers on some of the animals and are working to identify their owners.
The Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation and has not determined if these cases connect to other reports in the Point Douglas area. Police stressed the importance of public assistance in solving these crimes.
