Rochester, NH – A New Jersey man is facing multiple charges following a serious head-on crash that shut down part of the Spaulding Turnpike for hours late Wednesday night.
According to New Hampshire State Police, the incident began around 10:31 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, when troopers received reports of a hit-and-run crash on Route 16 near Exit 17 in Milton. Authorities say a Toyota Sienna minivan allegedly crossed the centerline and sideswiped another vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Moments later, a second crash involving the same minivan was reported near the Cross Road overpass in Rochester. Investigators allege the driver, identified as Deivid Aquino De Oliveira, 40, of Newark, New Jersey, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a northbound Toyota Corolla head-on. A third vehicle was also damaged in the chain-reaction crash.
Police say both De Oliveira and the Corolla driver sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital. A third driver was not injured.
According to troopers, De Oliveira allegedly showed signs of impairment and was arrested on charges including aggravated driving under the influence, reckless conduct, vehicular assault, and conduct after an accident.
The crash forced the closure of Route 16 between Exits 16 and 17 for approximately four hours overnight while crews investigated and cleared the scene.
The incident remains under investigation. De Oliveira is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
