Branch County, MI – A driver was injured in a late-night crash in Branch County after swerving to avoid a deer, according to local authorities.
According to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 10:19 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, to the area of South Ray Quincy Road and Lester Road in Algansee Township for a reported single-vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, deputies found a 2019 Kia Sorento that had left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle was discovered on its side with the driver’s side pinned toward the ground.
Authorities say the driver, who was the sole occupant, reported swerving to avoid a deer while traveling northbound. Officials noted that road conditions were wet due to heavy rain, which may have contributed to the crash.
Deputies made contact with the driver, who was alert but complained of neck injuries. Emergency crews stabilized the vehicle before the driver was extricated with assistance from fire personnel.
The driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Quincy Police Department, Quincy Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, and a towing service.
