Putnam County, FL – A 33-year-old woman is facing multiple felony charges after deputies say they found drugs and three young children inside a parked vehicle late Sunday night.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy initially noticed a vehicle parked outside Midway Baptist Church on Bardin Road. When the deputy returned later, the vehicle was still there, and a woman along with three small children were reportedly found asleep inside.

Authorities say the children ranged in age from an infant to four years old.

After additional deputies arrived, the woman—identified as Amanda Burkes of Palatka—was awakened and questioned. Officials say that despite her statements, a search of the vehicle allegedly revealed marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and trafficking amounts of methamphetamine.

Burkes was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including three counts of child neglect, trafficking in amphetamines, possession of a vehicle for drug activity, and possession of drugs within 1,000 feet of a place of worship.

She was taken to the Putnam County Jail and is being held without bond.

Authorities say a family member was contacted and took custody of the children.

The investigation remains ongoing.
