Washington, DC – A warm and sunny start will give way to potential thunderstorms across the DC metro area on Wednesday, May 13, as a cold front moves through the region during the afternoon and evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop later in the day, with a marginal risk for severe weather, especially west of the city across the Allegheny region. Some storms could produce gusty winds and brief heavy downpours, potentially impacting travel across Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia.

High temperatures Wednesday are expected to climb into the 70s before storms develop, following a cooler night with lows dipping into the upper 40s and 50s. The timing of the front suggests the greatest storm chances will occur during the late afternoon commute.

Drivers along major routes including I-95, I-66, and I-270 should prepare for sudden changes in visibility and slick road conditions during heavier showers.

Behind the front, cooler and drier air will settle into the region overnight and into Thursday, bringing more comfortable conditions after the midweek storm threat.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware and monitor alerts, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours when storms are most likely to develop.
