Hobart, IN – A man has been charged in connection with a late April burglary in Hobart after investigators used surveillance footage to identify the suspect.
According to the Hobart Police Department, officers responded April 28, 2026, to the 1900 block of East 38th Place after a homeowner reported returning to find their front door open. Police said home security footage showed a male suspect entering through the front door and remaining inside the residence for approximately two minutes before fleeing.
Authorities said the suspect was later seen exiting the home while eating a donut. While nothing initially appeared missing, the homeowner later reported several stolen items, including a wedding ring and other personal belongings.
According to police, the suspect was identified as Jhon Guerrero, who was later taken into custody on an unrelated matter. Investigators said they were able to positively identify him through surveillance footage, including distinctive clothing that matched what he was wearing at the time of his arrest.
Officials said Guerrero was formally charged on May 6, 2026, through the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office with Level 4 felony burglary. He is currently being held at the Lake County Jail.
