Barrington, IL – A serious crash involving a motorcycle and a minivan left one person injured Tuesday evening, prompting a multi-hour road closure along a busy stretch of Northwest Highway.
According to the Barrington Police Department, officers responded around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, to the area of 120 South Northwest Highway for reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a minivan. Barrington Fire Department crews also responded and provided aid to both drivers at the scene.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicates a 2021 Honda Odyssey, driven by a 45-year-old Palatine woman, exited a private driveway and attempted to turn left onto southbound Northwest Highway. At the same time, a Kawasaki motorcycle operated by a 40-year-old Barrington woman was traveling southbound when it struck the driver’s side of the minivan.
Authorities said the motorcyclist suffered injuries and was transported to Lutheran General Hospital for treatment. Her condition has not been publicly released.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) is assisting Barrington police with a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
Officials said the roadway remained closed for several hours during the investigation before reopening to traffic around 9 p.m.
Police are reminding drivers that May is Motorcycle Awareness Month and urging motorists to remain alert and share the road.
