Fort Wayne, IN Police Chase Ends in Crash of Stolen Patrol Car

Fort Wayne, Indiana – A chaotic sequence of events unfolded Monday afternoon in Fort Wayne when a woman allegedly took a marked police vehicle and crashed it following a brief pursuit, according to authorities.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers were dispatched around 3:10 p.m. Monday to a report of an unwanted person at a residence in the 1000 block of Columbia Avenue in Allen County, within the Fort Wayne metro area. When officers arrived, they encountered an adult woman who appeared incoherent. After investigating, police determined no crime had occurred and released her.

Shortly after being released, police say the woman allegedly entered an unsecured marked FWPD patrol vehicle and drove away from the scene. Officers initiated a brief pursuit that ended near the intersection of East State Boulevard and St. Joseph Boulevard, a busy Fort Wayne corridor.

Authorities said the woman crashed the stolen patrol vehicle into another vehicle at the intersection. Both the suspect and the other driver were transported to a local hospital. Officials reported that no serious injuries have been confirmed at this time.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office. Police have not released the identity of the woman or indicated what charges she may face.
