Whiteside County, IL Hit-and-Run: Deputies Search for RAM 1500 After Bicyclist Seriously Hurt

Rock Falls, IL – Authorities in Whiteside County are searching for the driver of a pickup truck believed to have struck a bicyclist and fled the scene Sunday night along U.S. Route 30.

According to the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, telecommunicators received a 911 call at approximately 10:21 p.m. Sunday, June 21, reporting a traffic crash involving a bicyclist on U.S. Route 30 near Crystal Lake, a rural area outside Rock Falls.

Deputies responding to the scene determined a westbound vehicle struck the bicyclist before leaving the area. The bicyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit believe the suspect vehicle is a 2019-2024 RAM 1500 pickup truck of unknown color. Authorities said the truck is likely missing its passenger-side exterior mirror and may have damage to the passenger-side headlamp, grille, and front fender area.

Law enforcement released an image showing the general style of vehicle believed to be involved but noted the exact color, trim level, cab configuration, and model year remain unknown.

The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Illinois State Police, the Rock Falls Police Department, the Rock Falls Fire Department, and CGH EMS.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen a RAM pickup matching the description or who has information related to the crash to contact Sergeant Noble at jnoble@whiteside.org.
