South Elgin, IL – Law enforcement activity is underway this morning in South Elgin as investigators revisit a nearly decade-old missing person case.

According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, a forensic excavation is being conducted Thursday, May 7, 2026, at a residence in the 800 block of Revere Road. The effort is part of the ongoing investigation into the 2016 disappearance of Kianna Galvin.

Officials say investigators are using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to scan the property for anomalies beneath the surface. The technology can detect disturbances in soil that may warrant further examination. Authorities determined additional investigation was necessary based on findings from the scan.

The Kane County Office of Emergency Management is assisting with the operation and has closed a portion of Revere Road while crews work at the site.

Kianna Galvin, 17 at the time, was last seen on May 6, 2016, after telling her sister she was heading to a nearby park. Her disappearance has remained unsolved for nearly 10 years.

In a statement, Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser said the case continues to weigh heavily on the community and reaffirmed a commitment to finding answers. Officials are urging anyone with information—no matter how small—to come forward.

Authorities say no additional details are available at this time, and updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
