West Palm Beach, Florida — Fast-moving fire خطر conditions will intensify across South and east-central Florida by late morning Saturday, with strong winds and dry air raising the risk of rapid fire spread from Fort Lauderdale to Melbourne between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 30 to 35 mph, will combine with humidity as low as 32 to 35 percent and temperatures near 95 degrees. The most dangerous window runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., when fires can ignite easily and spread quickly across dry vegetation.

Cities at greatest risk include West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Okeechobee, Stuart, Melbourne and Vero Beach. Along I-95, Florida’s Turnpike and U.S. 1, drivers may encounter sudden smoke plumes reducing visibility, especially near brush-lined shoulders and rural stretches. Low-lying roadside areas and canal edges near Okeechobee and inland Palm Beach County could see flames spread rapidly with wind shifts.

This is part of a broader system of dry air and gusty southwest flow covering much of the Florida peninsula, increasing strain on fire response and raising the risk of isolated power disruptions if flames reach utility lines.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose materials that could spark fires and stay off fire-prone rural roads during peak hours.

The most dangerous conditions will peak between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., when any spark can quickly become a fast-moving fire.
