Delaware Weather May 13-20: Thunderstorms Midweek Before 90s Heat

Wilmington, DE – Northern Delaware is expected to see a brief period of showers and thunderstorms through Thursday before a major warmup arrives this weekend and into next week, bringing temperatures that could approach the mid-90s.

According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday will begin mostly sunny before clouds increase later in the day. A slight chance of showers develops during the afternoon, while south winds could gust as high as 30 mph. High temperatures are expected to reach around 75 degrees.

Rain and thunderstorm chances increase significantly Wednesday night as a weather system moves through the region. Forecasters say showers and thunderstorms are likely before 3 a.m., followed by additional periods of rain overnight. Some storms may produce heavier rainfall totals across parts of New Castle County.

Thursday will remain unsettled with scattered showers possible, mainly during the morning hours. Conditions are expected to gradually improve later in the day as skies become mostly sunny with highs near 67 degrees.

Drier weather arrives Friday with mostly sunny skies and highs around 72 degrees. The warming trend accelerates into the weekend as temperatures climb into the 80s Saturday and upper 80s Sunday under sunny conditions.

Early next week could bring summerlike heat to Delaware. Monday is forecast to reach near 89 degrees, while Tuesday could surge to around 94 degrees with mostly sunny skies continuing.
