Kankakee Police Department to Host Citizens Police Academies
Kankakee, IL – The Kankakee Police Department has scheduled police academies for residents. The academies provide an opportunity for residents to build relationships with officers, learn the functions of the department and gain an understanding of local police work in their community. The Citizens Police Academies consists of classes that will last 8 weeks, meeting once a week.

The Lifelong Learning Institute offers affordable, high-quality, non-credit classes that take place in an environment that fosters participation. Some classes meet for one day on a specialized topic, others delve deeper over several sessions.
Power of Jaycees: Delorean Ride Raffle coming to Kankakee Farmers Market
The Kankakee Jaycees will be on hand at the Kankakee Farmers Market from 8 am to noon on September 28th and again on October 5th and 12th raffling off two chances to grab a ride in the time machine!
Protest planned for Kankakee Animal Control Vote
While removed from the public meeting of the full County Board on Tuesday, local organizers believe it will resurface at another session soon. A protest against the vote remains scheduled for Tuesday Morning, September 10th at 7:45 am at the County Clerk Building at 189 E Court Street in Kankakee.
Students representing 8 communities have joined the 2019 “Fast Path” degree program at KCC
The program is called “Fast Path,” and it simplifies college planning by having all courses, dates and times prearranged and guaranteed. Fast Path students complete two classes at a time, meet two days a week, and move on to new classes every eight weeks. They will earn an Associate in Arts transfer degree in two years. Some coursework is online in the program, and in-person classes are at the KCC Harold and Jean Miner South Extension Center, 1488 E. Walnut St. in Watseka.
PETA releases statement on Kankakee Animal Control vote
“A community without a shelter is like a bicycle with only one wheel, and it would be turning its back on people's needs with respect to animal issues. PETA has seen firsthand how desperate people with nowhere to turn—or who have been turned away from private shelters—have cruelly killed unwanted animals or abandoned them to starve, be hit by cars, or die of disease. Every community needs an open-admission animal shelter—one that accepts all animals in need without fees or waiting lists and never turns them away for being too sick, injured, old, or aggressive to adopt out easily.”
