Wheaton, IL – City crews are continuing cleanup efforts across Wheaton after severe winds swept through the area earlier this week, knocking down trees and leaving thousands without power.

According to the City of Wheaton Government, Public Works crews have been actively clearing roads and removing fallen trees and limbs since Monday afternoon. Work is expected to continue throughout the week as crews move through storm-damaged neighborhoods to ensure all impacted areas are addressed.

The storm caused widespread disruptions, with Wheaton among several communities experiencing significant power outages. According to ComEd, service had been restored to approximately 96% of Wheaton customers as of midnight, with crews continuing efforts to reconnect the remaining locations. Residents are encouraged to report outages directly to the utility provider for updates and assistance.

City officials emphasized that cleanup operations are focused specifically on debris from city-owned parkway trees. Homeowners dealing with tree damage on private property are responsible for their own removal and disposal. Officials recommend contacting a professional landscaper or utilizing the city’s weekly curbside yard waste collection program through LRS.

In addition to cleanup, the city is asking residents to report any damage to parkway trees using its online service request system. This allows crews to prioritize and respond more efficiently as they work through the backlog of storm-related issues.

Officials acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the storm and thanked residents for their patience as recovery efforts continue. No timeline has been given for full completion, but crews are expected to remain active daily until all reported areas are cleared.
