Second Illinois 2019 Novel Coronavirus Case Identified

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), and Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH), along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), are reporting the second confirmed case of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCov) in Illinois. The individual is a man in his 60s and is the spouse of the first confirmed travel-related case in Illinois. He had not traveled overseas but interacted with his wife upon her return from China. This is the first person-to-person spread of the virus in the United States.

Manteno Chamber of Commerce High School Scholarship: Applications Available

The Manteno Chamber of Commerce takes pride in awarding two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors, one male and one female. These scholarships are awarded to any high school senior that resides in Manteno. The scholarship criteria are based on the applicant's scholastic achievement, interest in continuing education and career goals, participation and leadership in school and community activities, and reputation for good citizenship and moral character.

State of the State: Ethics Reform Priority

The Governor stressed that the state’s historic progress must not be hampered by corruption and self-dealing and urged the General Assembly to pass comprehensive ethics reform, including a ban on lawmakers lobbying any unit of government, more disclosure of conflicts of interest with stiff penalties for withholding information, and a revolving door prohibition for lawmakers.

Project SUN presents a free Parent Café event tonight at 5pm in Kankakee

Project SUN, a local children’s behavioral health initiative, would like to invite parents and caregivers in Kankakee County to a free Parent Café event, hosted at the Helen Wheeler Center for Community Mental Health tonight from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM. This Parent Café is the first of a monthly series, intended to regularly provide a space for parents to bring their questions and concerns, gain free training from local professionals, and connect with others who may share similar experiences.
