The roundtable is October 22nd from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm in Rep. Parkhurst’s District Office at 370 E. Court St. in Kankakee. Rep. Parkhurst will be available to listen to constituent ideas to introduce new legislation benefiting the 79th District and Illinois for the spring legislative session. For constituents who wish to submit their ideas, but are unable to attend, a submission box is available at www.repparkhurst.com.
Mayor Wells-Armstrong further stated, “I am asking all city council members to consider using at least a portion of cannabis sales to offset the cost of the vehicle sticker. While the property sales tax reduction was a great effort by the administration and council to reduce the burden of taxes on property owners, many renters did not feel that reduction because they do not own their homes and/or businesses. We all know the sticker has been a source of contention for many residents. Especially since the cannabis legislation includes an equity component, I believe it is important that we take into consideration that we have an opportunity to provide relief to every resident in the City.”
Saturday morning the Manteno Chamber Board of Directors, Mayor and Police Department met for an emergency meeting to decide what to do to salvage the festivities. “The consensus was that we would rebuild and continue the fest. When the meeting commenced, we had several volunteers already cleaning the streets and assisting the vendors,” says Manteno Chamber President Sarah Marion.

An estimated two thousand children attended the festival to play free games run by local businesses and organizations and take part in the trunk-or-treat. The vendor market was packed, the petting zoo was a hit, and people got a little surprise with the Star Wars 501st showing up for the day in full movie quality costumes. The turnout overall was amazing, as was a glowing response from the community.
