Gaylord, MI – A powerful cold front moving into northern Michigan this weekend is expected to bring snow, dangerous wind chills, and plummeting temperatures. Residents should prepare for icy roads, blustery winds, and lake-effect snow beginning Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will drop into the single digits by Saturday evening, with wind chills as low as -25°F in some areas. Snow showers are likely, with accumulations of up to one inch on Saturday and additional snow expected through early next week.

The coldest days are forecast to be Sunday and Monday, with daytime highs ranging from 5°F to 9°F and overnight lows plunging below zero. Snow and blowing snow will create hazardous travel conditions, especially on exposed highways such as I-75 and M-32. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, allow extra time for travel, and monitor road conditions.

Blustery winds up to 30 mph will reduce visibility, particularly during lake-effect snow squalls. Residents should dress in layers and avoid prolonged exposure to prevent frostbite, which can occur within minutes at these temperatures.

Looking ahead, the bitter cold will persist into Tuesday, with highs only reaching the single digits. Snow chances remain, with a slight warm-up anticipated by midweek.
