Sioux Falls, SD – A powerful arctic front is moving into South Dakota today, bringing dangerously low temperatures and hazardous wind chills through Tuesday. Residents are urged to prepare as wind chills could plummet to -35 degrees, creating life-threatening conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front will bring light snow showers today before temperatures rapidly drop tonight. Highs on Saturday will struggle to reach 12°F, with overnight lows falling to -9°F. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will produce wind chills as low as -29°F on Saturday night. Sunday and Monday will remain bitterly cold, with daytime highs of just -2°F and wind chills between -25°F and -35°F.

These frigid temperatures can cause frostbite in minutes, particularly for those exposed to the wind. Authorities advise limiting outdoor activities and wearing multiple layers of clothing if venturing out. Drivers are warned of potentially icy conditions along Interstate 29 and other major roads due to snow showers today and blustery winds over the weekend.

Looking ahead, conditions will slightly improve by Tuesday, with highs near 12°F under sunny skies. However, overnight lows will remain near or below zero for much of the region.

Residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors, ensure pets are brought indoors, and prepare for potential power outages due to the extreme cold. For updated information, visit the National Weather Service website or local news outlets.
