Seattle, Washington – Travel to Hurricane Ridge and across the Olympic Mountains could become nearly impossible within hours as snow piles up and wind gusts reach 40 mph through Tuesday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Olympic Mountains until 11 p.m. Tuesday, with an additional 4 to 8 inches of snow expected. Gusty winds will combine with falling snow to reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions, especially on higher elevation roads leading into Olympic National Park.
Conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly through the afternoon and evening, particularly along steep and exposed routes near Hurricane Ridge. Blowing snow may obscure roadways, while sudden gusts could impact high-profile vehicles. Park access roads may become slick or temporarily impassable as accumulation intensifies.
Drivers are urged to slow down, carry tire chains, and avoid non-essential travel into the mountains. Power outages are also possible where wind and heavy snow weigh on tree limbs and utility lines.
The advisory remains in place through late Tuesday night, and additional updates or extended alerts could follow if snowfall rates increase or winds strengthen further.
