Pennsylvania – Warm air is surging into Philadelphia this afternoon, pushing temperatures toward 87°F and setting up a rapid climb into early-summer heat with storms looming midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, conditions at Philadelphia International Airport show partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid-60s early, rising quickly under southwest winds. A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms develops later today, especially after 5 p.m., with brief downpours possible across the city.

The real heat builds Wednesday and Thursday, when highs reach near 91°F across Philadelphia, Camden, and Wilmington. Streets along I-95, the Schuylkill Expressway, and Route 1 will feel noticeably warmer, with pavement temperatures climbing into peak afternoon hours. Meteorologists now tracking this surge say it could challenge early-season records.

Storm chances remain limited during the day Wednesday, but a slight risk returns late, then increases again Thursday night into Friday. By Friday afternoon, rain chances rise to 40%, which could slow travel and reduce visibility on key commuter routes.

Drivers should plan extra time during evening hours later this week. Wet pavement and sudden showers may lead to quick slowdowns. Keep phones charged and watch for changing conditions after sunset.

Looking ahead, temperatures ease back into the upper 70s by Saturday with drier air returning, offering a break from both heat and rain. More updates are likely as storm timing becomes clearer.

Five Day Outlook for Philadelphia, PA
Today: Mostly sunny, high near 87°F
Tonight: Chance of storms, low around 65°F
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high near 91°F
Thursday: Mostly sunny, high near 91°F
Friday: Chance of showers, high near 83°F
