New York, NY – Sunshine and warm air are already building across the city, pushing temperatures toward the upper 70s this afternoon and setting the stage for a quick shift to unsettled conditions by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, Central Park is climbing to near 79°F with light south winds, while humidity holds near 68%. Conditions stay quiet into the evening, but changes begin Wednesday afternoon with a 20% chance of showers, increasing to 30% with thunderstorms by late evening.

The warmth peaks Thursday, when highs reach around 81°F across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Streets will feel more like early summer, especially along major corridors like FDR Drive and the West Side Highway. That said, clouds increase late, signaling the next shift.

By Friday afternoon, a 40% chance of showers develops, which could slow commutes on I-278 and I-495 with wet pavement and reduced visibility. Rain chances linger into the evening before cooler air settles in. Temperatures fall sharply into the upper 50s Friday night, then struggle to reach the mid-60s Saturday.

Drivers should stay alert during midweek storms. Brief downpours could create slick conditions, especially during evening travel. Keep devices charged and allow extra time if storms develop overhead.

Looking ahead, cooler and more stable air settles in by the weekend, but additional updates may follow as midweek storm timing becomes clearer.

Five Day Outlook for New York City, NY
Today: Mostly sunny, high near 79°F
Tonight: Partly cloudy, low around 67°F
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, slight chance of storms late, high 82°F
Thursday: Partly sunny, high near 81°F
Friday: Scattered showers after 2 p.m., high near 75°F
