Texarkana, Texas – Easter travelers across the ArkLaTex region should prepare for wet roads and potential delays, as a high-impact rain pattern sets up during a critical holiday travel window.
According to the National Weather Service’s 8–14 day outlook issued March 27, a 60% to 70% probability of above-normal precipitation is expected across northeast Texas, southwest Arkansas, and northwest Louisiana between Saturday and the following weekend. This places cities like Texarkana, Shreveport, and El Dorado in a zone where repeated rounds of rain are likely.
Major travel routes including I-30, I-20, and US-59 could see slick conditions and reduced visibility, especially during heavier downpours. Drivers moving between Dallas and Little Rock along I-30 or Shreveport and Dallas along I-20 may encounter periods of steady rain that slow traffic during peak Easter travel times.
Urban areas such as Shreveport and Longview are particularly vulnerable to brief ponding on roadways if heavier bursts develop. While widespread flooding is not currently indicated, the repeated nature of rainfall could create localized travel issues.
Temperatures will trend above seasonal averages, ensuring all precipitation falls as rain and increasing moisture availability for more persistent showers.
Travelers should allow extra time, monitor TXDOT and local DOT updates, and remain cautious during reduced visibility. This active pattern is expected to persist through the Easter travel period, with additional updates likely as timing and rainfall coverage become more precise.
