Fort Wayne, Indiana – Severe storms could hit Northern Indiana during the evening commute, with damaging winds and large hail developing as early as 5 p.m. and intensifying through mid-evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, storms will expand between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., with the most intense activity expected from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wind gusts could exceed 70 mph, hail may reach up to 2 inches in diameter, and isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out, especially near and south of US-24, including Fort Wayne, Marion, and Muncie.
Heavy rain may linger overnight, particularly south of US-24, creating localized flooding concerns on low-lying roads. Travel along I-69 and US-30 could become hazardous as storms move east.
Behind the storms, temperatures drop sharply Friday, with highs only reaching 38 to 45 degrees. By Friday night into early Saturday, lows fall between 23 and 28 degrees, creating a risk for frost and damage to early-season vegetation.
Residents should secure outdoor items, charge devices, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Conditions calm this weekend, with sunshine Saturday and a gradual warmup by Sunday.
