Kane County, IL – Drivers traveling along Randall Road near Illinois Route 72 should expect delays beginning this week as lane closures and construction activity get underway.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, closures will take place south of IL-72 near the Carrington Drive intersection starting the week of Monday, April 27. The work is part of a roadway widening project designed to improve long-term traffic flow and safety in the area.

Construction will occur in multiple phases. Initially, the outside northbound lane of Randall Road near Carrington Drive will be closed for approximately one week. After that, crews will shift to southbound lane closures, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction for an additional two to three weeks.

Officials say intermittent daytime lane closures may also occur between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. During these times, drivers may encounter flaggers directing traffic through the work zone.

The project is expected to create periodic slowdowns, particularly during peak travel hours. Commuters in Elgin, St. Charles, and surrounding Kane County communities are encouraged to allow extra travel time or seek alternate routes when possible.

Authorities emphasize that the construction is necessary to provide safer access and accommodate increasing traffic demands along this busy corridor.

The overall roadway improvement project is expected to be completed by December 2026, weather permitting.

Drivers are reminded to use caution in work zones, follow posted signage, and remain alert for workers and changing traffic patterns.
