Island Lake, Illinois – A basement fire early Tuesday displaced residents and sent a juvenile to the hospital, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.
According to the Wauconda Fire District, crews were dispatched at approximately 2:30 a.m. on March 18 to the 3000 block of Briarhill Drive in Island Lake for a reported structure fire.
The first unit arrived within four minutes and located an active fire in a basement bedroom of a two-story single-family home. Firefighters brought the blaze under control within about 15 minutes.
Officials said the home sustained significant fire and smoke damage and has been deemed uninhabitable. A juvenile occupant was transported to a local hospital for evaluation of smoke inhalation. The patient’s condition was not immediately known. No other injuries were reported.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Countryside Fire Protection District, Barrington Fire Department, Lake Zurich Fire Department, Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District, Crystal Lake Fire Department, and Fox River Grove Fire Protection District.
While crews managed the incident, the Mundelein and Barrington fire departments provided coverage for surrounding communities.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage to the property is estimated at approximately $100,000.
The incident may affect nearby residents and early-morning commuters due to emergency vehicle activity in the area.
