Tallahassee, Florida – Fire danger is rapidly increasing across North Florida today, with hot temperatures and dry air setting the stage for more critical conditions by early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, afternoon highs will climb into the upper 80s and low 90s Friday, with elevated fire risk already in place. Winds will strengthen into Saturday ahead of a cold front, increasing the potential for fast-moving fires, especially in dry vegetation across the Panhandle and Big Bend.

By Sunday, the front moves through with only spotty rainfall, doing little to ease drought conditions. Gusts between 20 and 25 mph will continue to dry out fuels, keeping fire danger high into the evening hours.

The most concerning period arrives Monday afternoon, when humidity levels could drop as low as 15 to 20 percent. Even light winds near 15 mph could allow fires to spread quickly, particularly in Leon, Wakulla, Bay, and surrounding counties.

From Tuesday through Friday, warm and dry afternoons will persist with little to no rainfall, maintaining elevated fire danger across the region.

Residents should avoid outdoor burning, follow local burn bans, and remain alert for fire weather warnings. Conditions will stay volatile through early next week, with additional advisories likely.
