Juneau, Alaska – Snow is piling up across Southeast Alaska this morning, and drivers in Juneau and surrounding communities face slick roads and reduced visibility through the midday hours Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Juneau, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon AKST Wednesday for Glacier Bay, Eastern Chichagof Island, Cape Fairweather to Lisianski Strait, the City and Borough of Juneau, and Admiralty Island. An additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected in many areas, with up to 2 inches on Admiralty Island. Forecasters warn snowfall rates could reach 1 inch per hour during the heaviest bands this morning.

Communities including Gustavus, Hoonah, Tenakee Springs, Elfin Cove, Pelican and Angoon are seeing steady accumulation as moisture feeds northward. In Juneau, snow-covered roads may slow the morning commute, especially on untreated side streets and elevated roadways. Near Skagway, snow is expected to linger into Wednesday evening before tapering off.

Officials urge residents to delay non-essential travel. If you must drive, carry emergency supplies including food, water and a flashlight. For real-time road conditions, call 511 or visit 511.alaska.gov.

Snow will gradually diminish around midday for most locations, though slick conditions may persist into the afternoon. Additional advisories could follow if bands redevelop.
