Cincinnati, Ohio – Drivers across Ohio could encounter water-covered roads and rising creeks by late tonight as multiple rounds of heavy rain sweep across the state, with the heaviest totals setting up near the Interstate 75 corridor through Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a widespread rain shield will expand across the region late Tuesday morning and continue through the day, with the most intense rainfall arriving this evening and persisting overnight. Forecasters say a west-to-east axis of heavier rain may produce 2 to 3 inches where bands repeatedly track over the same communities.

Statewide, central and southwest Ohio face the highest risk for quick runoff and localized flooding. Cities including Dayton, Cincinnati, Wilmington and Chillicothe sit near the projected corridor of heaviest rain. Parts of Columbus and surrounding Franklin County could also see periods of steady downpours.

Low-lying roads, underpasses and poor drainage areas may flood quickly, especially during the Tuesday evening commute. Officials urge drivers to avoid water-covered roads and allow extra travel time. Residents should clear storm drains where safe and ensure sump pumps are working.

Rain continues through early Wednesday, and additional advisories could be issued if heavier bands shift. More unsettled weather is expected later this week.
