Glasgow, Mont. – A rapid warmup into the lower 60s by Tuesday afternoon will accelerate snowmelt across northeast Montana, creating wet stretches and possible refreezing on US-2 before the next round of mixed showers arrives midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a ridge of high pressure will build over the region through Tuesday, pushing highs from the 30s Sunday into the upper 50s and lower 60s by Tuesday and Wednesday. Overnight lows will still dip into the teens and 20s early in the week, allowing melted snow to refreeze on untreated roads by 8 a.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Across Valley County, US-2 from Havre through Glasgow to Wolf Point may see water pooling during the afternoon thaw, followed by icy patches after sunset. MT-13 south toward Circle could also experience slick spots each morning as temperatures swing above and below freezing.

By Wednesday and Thursday, a Pacific front will move in, bringing scattered mixed rain and snow showers. While widespread heavy accumulation is not expected, brief bursts of snow could reduce visibility along US-2 and secondary highways before transitioning back to rain.

Chinook winds are expected to develop Friday, boosting temperatures again into the 50s and possibly low 60s. Drivers should watch for rapid changes in road conditions this week, particularly during early morning hours when refreezing is most likely. Additional statements may be issued if midweek precipitation trends heavier or if wind gusts increase heading into Friday.
