Cleveland, Ohio – Rain chances surge to as high as 90 percent by Wednesday afternoon, setting up wet highways and slower travel along I-90 and I-71 during the midweek commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a warming trend begins Monday and accelerates Tuesday as multiple weather systems track across northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania. High temperatures will climb from the 30s Sunday into the 40s and 50s Tuesday, eventually reaching the 60s in several communities by Thursday. As warmer air moves in, rain chances increase sharply beginning Tuesday and peaking Wednesday.

Across the Cleveland metro, steady showers may develop by late Tuesday, with the highest coverage expected Wednesday between noon and 6 p.m. I-90 along the Shoreway and I-71 south toward Medina could see ponding during heavier bursts. Akron and Canton along I-76 face similar conditions, especially during the Wednesday afternoon drive.

Farther west, Toledo and Findlay along I-75 may encounter periods of moderate rain Tuesday night into Wednesday, reducing visibility and creating slick pavement. In northeast Ohio, Youngstown along I-80 could see repeated rounds of showers through Thursday.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and avoid driving through standing water. Storm drains clogged by winter debris may increase localized flooding risk in urban areas. While no widespread flooding is expected at this time, additional advisories could be issued if rainfall totals trend higher or thunderstorms develop later in the week.
