Indianapolis, Ind. – Snow will overspread central Indiana late Sunday evening, with up to 2 inches possible before daybreak Monday and slick travel likely on I-65 and I-70 during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, light snow develops Sunday night and continues into early Monday morning. Most locations across central Indiana can expect between a half-inch and 2 inches of accumulation by 7 a.m. Monday. As temperatures hover near freezing, areas south of Indianapolis may see snow mix with sleet or freezing rain toward sunrise, creating isolated icy spots.
Across the Indianapolis metro, I-65, I-70 and I-465 could become snow-covered overnight, especially on bridges and elevated ramps. Road conditions may deteriorate quickly between midnight and 6 a.m. Monday as snowfall rates briefly increase. In Terre Haute along I-70 and Lafayette near I-65, steady light snow may reduce visibility and cover untreated lanes.
Farther south, Bloomington and Bedford along I-69 sit closer to the transition zone where a wintry mix could produce a thin glaze before temperatures rise above freezing late Monday morning. Columbus and Seymour along I-65 may also see patchy icing.
Drivers should allow extra travel time, reduce speeds and avoid sudden braking during the Monday morning commute. Most roadways should improve by midday Monday as temperatures climb and snow begins to melt. Additional advisories may be issued overnight if ice becomes more widespread or snowfall totals trend higher than expected.
