Maryland – Headlights cut through thick patches of fog across Baltimore as temperatures hover near 35 degrees, and some drivers are already hitting slick pavement before mid-morning. Visibility has dropped below a quarter mile in spots, especially in low-lying valleys and along river corridors. Wet pavement from recent rain is turning icy where temperatures slipped into the upper 20s earlier, raising concern for flash freezing on bridges and overpasses.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, patchy dense freezing fog will linger through mid-morning before gradually lifting. Officials warn that road surfaces that appear wet may actually be icy. Transportation crews are monitoring elevated roadways along I-95, I-83, and the Baltimore Beltway, where colder deck temperatures can refreeze quickly.

Expect sunshine to take over later today with highs near 51. The milder air will feel like early March. Still, once the sun sets, temperatures fall back into the 30s. Any leftover moisture could refreeze again by early Saturday.

Saturday turns brighter and warmer, reaching the upper 50s with light winds. By Sunday afternoon, clouds increase and a slight chance of rain develops after 1 p.m. Highs stay near 48. Plan extra travel time Sunday evening as roads may turn damp.

Monday brings a sharper turn. Highs struggle into the low 30s with a 40 percent chance of snow. Light accumulations are possible, and a brief icy mix could develop Monday night into early Tuesday as temperatures hover near freezing. Even minor slush could create slick conditions during the morning commute.

By midweek, temperatures rebound into the 50s with rain chances tapering. Longer-range trends point to above-normal readings heading deeper into March, hinting at steady spring warmth ahead.

Traveling this weekend or early next week? Let us know what you’re seeing on the roads.

Five Day Outlook for Baltimore, Maryland:

Saturday: Sunny, high 57.
Sunday: Slight chance of rain after 1 p.m., high 48.
