Albany, NY – Snow squalls could quickly coat higher-elevation roads in Bennington County this evening, creating slick travel conditions during and after the commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Bennington County above 1,500 feet until 7 a.m. EST Thursday. An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected as a cold front pushes through, triggering scattered snow showers and isolated squalls. Brief bursts of heavier snow may rapidly reduce visibility and cover roadways in a short period of time.

Communities including Stamford, Pownal, Woodford State Park and Bennington’s higher terrain could see the most accumulation. Routes such as Vermont 9 near Woodford and other elevated stretches may become snow-covered overnight. After the front passes, upslope snow showers will linger for several hours before tapering toward daybreak.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and stay alert for sudden whiteout conditions in heavier squalls.

Snow diminishes early Thursday morning, but patchy ice may persist for the morning commute as temperatures remain below freezing.
