Lexington, KY – Motorists across central and north-central Kentucky should plan for potentially hazardous travel Friday as light snowfall moves through the region during commute hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST Friday for multiple Kentucky counties, including areas around Lexington, Frankfort, Georgetown, Paris, Winchester, Cynthiana, and Carlisle.

Snowfall totals are expected to reach up to 1 inch, with isolated locations possibly seeing as much as 2 inches. While widespread heavy snow is not anticipated, forecasters warn that timing could cause slippery roads during both the morning and evening commutes.

Highways that could be impacted include Interstate 64, Interstate 75, Interstate 71, and major routes such as US-60 and US-27. Elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses may become slick first.

Officials say untreated roads could deteriorate quickly once snow begins, especially in shaded or rural areas. Drivers should be prepared for slower travel speeds and reduced traction.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, and check road conditions before traveling. Real-time updates are available at goky.ky.gov.

Residents should continue monitoring local forecasts Friday for any updates to snowfall totals or advisory timing.
