Jeffersonville, IN – Drivers in southern Indiana should prepare for slick travel conditions Friday as light snowfall moves through the region during peak commute hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST Friday for parts of southern Indiana, including Jefferson County and nearby areas such as Madison, Bedford, and Milton.

Forecasters say up to 1 inch of snow is expected across most locations, with isolated totals approaching 2 inches. While snowfall amounts are relatively light, officials warn that timing could create problems during the Friday morning and evening commutes.

Highways potentially impacted include Interstate 65, Interstate 265, and State Road 62, along with local surface streets. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways could become slick quickly as snow accumulates.

The National Weather Service notes that even minor snow events can significantly affect travel speeds, particularly during periods of steady snowfall. Reduced visibility and longer stopping distances are possible during peak travel times.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Motorists can check current road conditions by visiting 511in.org before heading out.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates throughout the day Friday in case snowfall totals or advisory timing change.
