Caribou, ME – Northern Maine residents should prepare for a sharp change in weather as a cold front moves through late Thursday, bringing the coldest temperatures of the season by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service Caribou, daytime highs will remain unusually warm through Thursday, reaching the 70s and near 80 in inland areas. However, a cold front will arrive Thursday evening and overnight, delivering the best chance for rain across the Crown of Maine. Northern Aroostook County may see only about 0.10 inches, keeping drought conditions largely unchanged.

By Friday, colder and drier Canadian air will spread across the region. Frost is possible Friday night in northern areas, with temperatures dipping further Saturday night. Forecasters warn that central and northern valleys could see their first freeze of the season by late Saturday.

While the rain chance will be minimal, the sudden drop in temperatures could impact gardens, farms, and outdoor activities across Aroostook and neighboring counties. Residents are encouraged to prepare for frost-sensitive plants and plan accordingly for the first freezing night of autumn.

The Weather Service highlighted that most of Maine remains in drought, with dry weather expected for much of the week despite the passing front.
