Houston, Texas – Drivers and families in southeast Texas should prepare for a stormy stretch beginning Monday afternoon as heat combines with scattered thunderstorms. Travel on I-45 and surrounding Houston roadways could slow as downpours and lightning build into the evening. Residents should plan ahead and limit non-essential driving during peak storm times.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston, a 20 percent chance of storms develops Monday afternoon with highs near 93. Storm chances increase sharply Tuesday and Wednesday, with up to a 50 percent likelihood of thunderstorms during the day and into the evening. These storms may cause minor flooding on city streets and disrupt flights at Houston Hobby and Bush Intercontinental airports.

The week will begin with typical late-August heat, with highs in the low to mid-90s. By Wednesday, cloud cover and rain chances should trim afternoon highs to the upper 80s. Still, high humidity will push feels-like temperatures near 100 degrees during breaks in the rain.

Residents should charge devices, monitor local alerts, and allow extra commute time as storms pass through the metro. Outdoor plans and after-school activities may need adjustments by midweek.

Conditions will stay unsettled through Saturday, keeping rain gear handy and travel flexible. More advisories could be issued if thunderstorms intensify or stall.
