Hastings, Neb. – After a stretch of 90-degree heat, Nebraska is starting the weekend with a break as temperatures fall into the mid-70s to mid-80s under partly cloudy skies. Dewpoints have dropped into the 50s, bringing more comfortable air to much of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, scattered chances for showers and thunderstorms return tonight, especially across southwestern Nebraska, and will linger into Sunday. Storm chances continue into early next week as cooler air pushes south, with highs mainly in the low to mid-70s. Some locations may not escape the 60s at times. Winds remain light at 10 to 15 mph, shifting from north-northeast today to southeasterly early next week.

Drivers across central Nebraska should prepare for brief downpours and reduced visibility during storm activity, especially on rural highways. Outdoor events may see interruptions late Sunday and Monday as storms redevelop.

The cooler trend continues through midweek, with temperatures staying well below the sweltering highs seen earlier this month. Additional advisories could be issued if storms strengthen.
