South Bend, Indiana – Heat and humidity will push the feel-like temperature into triple digits across northern Indiana and parts of southwest Michigan Wednesday, creating a serious risk for heat illness and prompting a Heat Advisory for the region.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, the Heat Advisory runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, covering Berrien, Cass (MI), LaPorte, St. Joseph (IN), Marshall, Starke, Pulaski, Fulton, Cass (IN), and White counties. Forecasters expect heat index values to reach 98 to 102 degrees, with cities like South Bend, Knox, and Warsaw facing the most oppressive conditions.

Travelers and residents should limit outdoor activity during the afternoon and early evening, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. High humidity combined with extreme heat can lead to heat-related illnesses quickly—especially for those without air conditioning. Local officials recommend finding air-conditioned spaces, drinking plenty of fluids, and keeping pets indoors during peak hours.

This hot spell could rival previous July heatwaves for the area, and even warmer temperatures are possible on Thursday. Residents should prepare for possible extensions of heat advisories and continue to monitor local updates.

Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday evening, with another round of dangerous heat expected Thursday.
