Wichita Falls, Texas – Damaging winds, hail, and intense lightning are possible across parts of North Texas this evening as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday, with Wichita Falls and surrounding counties directly in the threat zone.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, counties under the watch include Archer, Baylor, Clay, Foard, Hardeman, Knox, Wichita, and Wilbarger. The storms could bring wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to quarter size. Isolated power outages and tree damage are possible, especially in rural and exposed areas.

In Wichita Falls, city officials are urging residents to secure outdoor items and remain indoors if storms approach. U.S. Highway 287 and Interstate 44 may see slick conditions during the evening commute. Emergency managers in Wilbarger and Knox Counties also caution residents to monitor weather alerts and prepare for sudden changes in storm intensity.

This is the first major thunderstorm watch of June for the region, kicking off what could be an active severe weather stretch. Residents should charge mobile devices, avoid travel during downpours, and keep flashlights ready in case of outages.

More thunderstorms are possible overnight, and additional watches or warnings may be issued if conditions persist.
