Morristown, TN – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for parts of East Tennessee, effective from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of gusty winds up to 70 mph and dangerously low humidity, creating hazardous fire conditions.

According to the NWS in Morristown, southerly winds will strengthen in the afternoon, peaking in the evening and overnight hours. Relative humidity levels could drop as low as 15 to 25 percent, further increasing fire risk. The warning applies to Johnson, Cocke Smoky Mountains, Southeast Greene, Unicoi, Southeast Carter, Blount Smoky Mountains, Sevier Smoky Mountains, and Southeast Monroe counties.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, as any fires that develop could spread rapidly under these conditions.

Safety Tips:

Avoid outdoor burning and dispose of flammable materials properly.

Secure outdoor objects that could become airborne due to high winds.

Stay updated on local alerts and follow emergency instructions.

The Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, though high winds may persist into the evening. Residents should stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
