Brownsville, TX – A Red Flag Warning is in effect from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening across several South and West Texas counties due to strong winds, dry fuels, and critically low humidity levels, increasing the risk of fast-spreading wildfires.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Brownsville, the warning applies to Zapata, Jim Hogg, Brooks, Starr, and Northern Hidalgo counties from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. CST Tuesday. Winds are expected to reach 10-20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, while humidity levels could drop as low as 7%. Temperatures may climb to 89°F, further intensifying fire danger.

Meanwhile, the NWS Midland/Odessa has also issued a Red Flag Warning for West Texas and Southeast New Mexico, effective from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST Tuesday. Wind speeds in these areas could range from 30 to 45 mph, with gusts reaching up to 70 mph and relative humidity as low as 5%.

Precautions & Safety Measures

Avoid outdoor burning, as fires could spread quickly.

Refrain from activities that generate sparks, including welding or using power tools outdoors.

Secure loose objects, as strong winds could contribute to fire growth.

Residents are urged to stay updated and follow local emergency guidelines.
